This course explores individual AOD (alcohol and other drug) counseling techniques, intervention skills, and relapse prevention strategies. Theories of group counseling process and group interactions will be practiced. This course will also review the major goals, stages, and processes of group counseling in addiction treatment programs. The role, responsibilities, and ethics of the group leader are emphasized along with strategies and techniques for facilitating group processes. Grading: A-F grading only.

This is a required course for both the CCAPP and CSUEB tracks in the Chemical Dependency/Addiction Studies certificate program. This course is also open to students who would like to enroll in this course as a stand-alone course with no obligation to complete the certificate program. This course takes place in person on the Cal State East Bay Hayward campus (room number to be announced). The class meets Friday through Sunday on 5/3-5/5 and 5/17-5/19.
