In this course students will learn how to take off bid quantities, estimate prices, and compile a bid proposal for a construction project. With an emphasis on hard bid general contracting practices; course topics include: subcontractor selection, quantity-survey techniques, analysis and pricing of general conditions, pre-bid analysis, specifications review, bid preparation techniques, and final pricing. Also included is an overview of computer applications for estimating and bidding utilizing on-screen take-offs. In addition to participating in lectures and exercises, students will utilize an Excel spreadsheet program on their laptops for a final bid proposal. Recommended Prerequisite: EXTX 200/EXSP 8049. All students are welcome to enroll. The courses falls in the middle of the Construction Management certificate program course sequence and course content will require that students have a working knowledge of blueprint reading and construction math. A math screening quiz will be given during the first class meeting.
