Understanding Resiliency, Risk, and Protective Factors with Special Populations

This course will center on case conceptualization and applied practice for early intervention and healing in the lives of families with young children. Relational models of intervention and strategies to enhance family engagement will be examined. Students will investigate the impact of risk and resiliency factors on the family system and developmental trajectory of young children using case vignettes and clinical material. The clinician┬┐s role within a broader system of care will also be explored as multidisciplinary and wrap-around services are considered.

Notes:

This is the 4th and final course in the course sequence for the Infant & Early Childhood Mental Health certificate program. There will be 3 in person class meetings taking place at the Hayward campus (8/27, 10/22, 12/17). The rest of the class meeting will take place via Zoom (9/10, 9/24, 10/8, 11/5, 11/19, and 12/3). The instructor for this course is Valerie Bellas. The course is only open to students who have previously completed EXTX 696, EXTX 697, and EXTX 698.
