This course builds on the concepts learned in EXTX 551. Topics include automating a nonprofit accounting department, evaluating fiscal sponsorship opportunities, best practices in setting executive compensation, and comparing and contrasting cost allocation methodologies. The course will also cover identifying compliance pitfalls that are often overlooked, such as the IRS public support test requirement, donor recognition guidelines, and endowments. Students will apply concepts through reading and interpreting nonprofit financial statements, audit reports and tax returns available online. This course is ideal for financial and non-financial professionals who have or will have a role overseeing a nonprofit accounting and finance function. Prerequisite: EXTX 551 or significant experience with and understanding of nonprofit financial management concepts
