This course provides an introduction to the location and use of legal research tools, and the analysis of written expression of current law as applied to given factual situations. Students will write case briefs, memoranda of law, and points and authorities. Through law library assignments, students will become familiar with, and be able to use: state and national reports, statutes, Shepard's Citations, legal digests, encyclopedias, treatises, and form books. Tuition includes Westlaw access. Repeatability: May be repeated for credit for a maximum of 6 units. Grading: A-F grading only. Equivalent Quarter Course: ENGL 7017.

This course meetings in the online asynchronous format with no required Zoom class meetings. This is not a self-paced course (students will have assignments with due dates throughout the 8-week class). Course materials can be found in CSUEB's Canvas course management system on/after August 18th. REQUIRED COURSE FOR NEW STUDENTS STARTING IN AUGUST 2025. This is an online synchronous course with required Zoom class meetings that take place on Wednesday evenings, starting 8/20 and ending on 10/8. The online class meetings are from 6-9:45 pm. The Zoom link will be posted to the course portal in Canvas and also emailed to students within 2 days of first class meeting.
