Paralegal Internship

This internship bridges the gap between the classroom and the legal marketplace. You are placed in a legal setting of your choice for practical, on-the-job experience in a law firm, corporation, or other legal environment. You are free to choose your own placement. If you need assistance in choosing an internship, you are encouraged to contact the instructor before the class meeting. Requirements for the class are: 120 hours of internship work, attendance at three mandatory seminar meetings, and completion of a journal of work performed during the internship. CSUEB students do not have to find their internship position. We have many internship positions available for our students. This information will be given to the students during the FIRST internship meeting. Students must get pre-approval from the Paralegal Program Director if they want to find their own internship position. Prerequisites: All courses from POSC 801 through POSC 809. Grading: CR/NC grading only. Equivalent Quarter Course: POSC 7020.

Notes:

The Paralegal Internship is a required course that has 3 required class meetings in the online synchronous format: This course will begin on Saturday 10/11 and take place via Zoom from 10 am - Noon. The 2nd and 3rd class meetings will take place on 11/8 and 12/6 also from 10 am - Noon. During the course, students will be required to complete a 120 hour internship. Questions about the internship should contact Carol Thornberry directly at carol.thornberry@csueastbay.edu . Prior to enrolling in this course, students must have completed POSC 801, 802, 804, 805, and 809. Students are not required to secure their own internship prior to the first class meeting (although, students seeking to complete their internship outside of the San Francisco Bay Area may need to take a more active role in sourcing internship options). If any student has comparable work experience to that of a paralegal, they may request waiver of the Paralegal Internship class (waiver request form can be found on the Cal State East Bay website on the Paralegal Studies `Curriculum¿ page).. Students who have received a BA/BS from CSUEB should enroll in this course using the Forever Pioneer Registration Form found in the 'Tuition & Fees' page of the Continuing Education website. No late enrollments will be accepted.
