This noncredit seminar introduces the paralegal profession and provides the student with an overview of the role of a paralegal, the professional responsibilities and opportunities for a paralegal, the organization and management of law offices, and the skills expected of a paralegal. In addition, the student will be introduced to: - The California and the Federal court systems - The differences between trial and appellate courts - The sources of law including the Constitution, common law and statutory law - The basic differences between criminal law and civil law - Essential legal vocabulary and symbols.

This course is open to anyone who is interested in learning more about the paralegal professional. Students may enroll in this course without being admitted to the CSUEB Paralegal Studies program. This course is required for any students seeking the CSUEB Paralegal Studies certificate who does not have any prior law office experience.
