This noncredit seminar introduces the paralegal profession and provides the student with an overview of the role of a paralegal, the professional responsibilities and opportunities for a paralegal, the organization and management of law offices, and the skills expected of a paralegal. In addition, the student will be introduced to: - The California and the Federal court systems - The differences between trial and appellate courts - The sources of law including the Constitution, common law and statutory law - The basic differences between criminal law and civil law - Essential legal vocabulary and symbols.

This course is open to students who are admitted to the CSUEB Paralegal Studies program as well as to individuals who are not seeking the Paralegal Studies certificate who are interested in learning more about the paralegal profession. This is an online synchronous course with 1 required Zoom class meeting on Saturday, August 15 from 9:00-11:30 am. The Zoom link will be posted course in the CSUEB Canvas system within 3 days prior to the course start date.
