This course involves the focus on adapting the environment to meet the needs of children with trauma in order to improve learning and promote healing. Children with trauma need strong relationships, meaningful participation, and seek control of their environment. Participants will use the latest research on Universal Design for Learning and other models of Personalized Learning to adapt their classroom or school environment based on principles of Trauma Supportive Schools. Grading: A-F grading only.
This class meets in the online format with Zoom class meetings taking place from 9:00 am to Noon on 1/20, 2/17, 3/16, 4/20, and 5/18. The Zoom link will be emailed to enrolled students within 3 days of the first scheduled class meetings. Students should have completed EPSY 855 & 856. Students who are enrolling in this course should also enroll in the Spring 2024 course, EPSY 858, as these two courses are intended to be taken concurrently in the same semester. A Zoom link will be sent to registered students via email before the first class meeting. Course materials will be available in Canvas.
