This noncredit seminar introduces the paralegal profession and provides the student with an overview of the role of a paralegal, the professional responsibilities and opportunities for a paralegal, the organization and management of law offices, and the skills expected of a paralegal. In addition, the student will be introduced to: - The California and the Federal court systems - The differences between trial and appellate courts - The sources of law including the Constitution, common law and statutory law - The basic differences between criminal law and civil law - Essential legal vocabulary and symbols.

This is an online synchronous course with required Zoom class meetings that take place on 2 Saturdays, 1/6 and 1/20. The class meetings are from 9-11:30 am. The Zoom link will be posted to the course portal in Canvas and also emailed to students within 2 days of first class meeting.
