Estimating and Bidding

In this course students will learn how to take off bid quantities, estimate prices, and compile a bid proposal for a construction project. With an emphasis on hard bid general contracting practices; course topics include: subcontractor selection, quantity-survey techniques, analysis and pricing of general conditions, pre-bid analysis, specifications review, bid preparation techniques, and final pricing. Also included is an overview of computer applications for estimating and bidding utilizing on-screen take-offs. In addition to participating in lectures and exercises, students will utilize an Excel spreadsheet program on their laptops for a final bid proposal. Prerequisites: EXSP 8049/Ext 200, blueprint reading, and basic construction math are required. A math screening quiz will be given at the first meeting.

Notes:

This course takes place online, with Wednesday class meetings taking place via Zoom from 6:30-9:20 pm starting 10/14 and ending on 12/9. There will be no class meeting on 11/25. The final exam for this course may take place after the end date of this class but no later than the Saturday immediately following the last class meeting. Enrolled students can access course materials on the CSUEB BlackBoard system at bb.csueastbay.edu with the Net ID and password. Students who have received a BA or BS from CSUEB should enroll in this course using the 'Forever Pioneer Registration Form' to receive a discount on the course fee. This form can be found on the 'Tuition & Fees' page of the CSUEB Continuing Education website.
