Cal State East Bay’s EKG Technician Certificate Program provides the skills you need to make an impact in the healthcare profession. You’ll learn about the anatomy and physiology of the heart, medical disease processes and terminology, electrocardiography, and echocardiography.
You’ll also gain insight into medical ethics and legal aspects of patient contact. Most importantly, you’ll be prepared to take national certification examinations sponsored by the National Healthcareer Association (NHA).

With your certificate from Cal State East Bay, you’ll have the hands-on experience required to provide critical healthcare services. You can perform diagnostic imaging tests with skill and confidence while also instilling confidence in your patients. You’ll oversee EKG test procedures, record EKG readings, administer stress tests, and administer Holter monitoring tests. You’ll also provide EKG test data to physicians for additional analysis.
Upon completion of the program, graduates have accepted positions in physicians’ offices, hospitals, and clinics. Still others have joined insurance companies where they assist with establishing health and life insurance policies.

The EKG Technician Certificate Program is offered in the evenings in a classroom setting at CSUEB’s Oakland Center.
To earn an EKG Technician Certificate, you must complete one required 11.5-week/60-hour course. The course includes a graded final exam to help prepare you for the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) Electrocardiograph (EKG) Technician Exams. You will be required to pass EKG Technician Exams and other state and national certification exams administered by ASPT.
