Program Format

Cal State East Bay’s One-Year Accelerated MBA program is offered in a cohort, hybrid format.

Balance your work and studies with a blend of 40% online learning and 60% in-person classes. You’ll meet in-person from 9am-5pm on Saturdays at the CSUEB Hayward Campus and online two evenings a week from 6-10pm.

In-person classes are held in the state-of-the-art Innovation Center, where you will collaborate with peers and faculty on groundbreaking projects. With our small, cohort-based learning experience, you'll gain personalized attention and support from both expert instructors and professional peers, enhancing your overall learning experience.

Charlie Bosetti

MBA

Follow not where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path, and leave a trail!

Charlie Bosetti, MBA recently retired as vice-president of West Business Group after 31 years working for Steelcase Inc. leading all sales, marketing, and distribution activities in the western United States. Bosetti’s business unit was responsible for over $500 million in total revenue with annual gross margins of $150 million. Based in San Francisco, and leading a diverse team of over 100 sales, marketing, and distribution professionals throughout the west, Bosetti’s core competencies include: strategic business leadership, design thinking and change management, cross-cultural communication, and negotiation/conflict resolution. Prior assignments include Regional Vice-President West Coast, Managing Director, Steelcase Australia, based in Sydney, and Commercial Director, Steelcase Mexico, based in Mexico City.

He graduated from the CSUEB One-Year MBA program and is currently a lecturer in the College of Business and Economics at CSUEB. Bosetti teaches graduate-level courses in “Business Leadership and Managerial Communications” as well as “Negotiation and Conflict Resolution” with an emphasis on Ethics & AI. Originally from the Washington D.C. metropolitan area, Bosetti graduated from Pennsylvania State University with a degree in Business Administration/Marketing.

Grant Brady

Success is using your skills and knowledge to create positive change and make a difference in the world around you.

Dr. Grant M. Brady’s primary areas of interest include the recruitment, hiring, and onboarding processes with an overarching emphasis on promoting employee well-being. Specifically, he is passionate about people analytics and using data to make better HR and employee decisions. His work on employee well-being focuses on identifying practices that organizations and employees can engage in to support working successfully across the lifespan. His research has been published in leading academic journals including Journal of Management and Journal of Applied Psychology. He has also given numerous presentations at professional conferences. His commonly taught courses in the MBA program include: MGMT 616 - People Analytics and MGMT 601 - Leading People and Organizations.

Eric Fricke

PhD

I really enjoy talking about current event topics in finance. Not only does it make the content real but it brings up opportunities to discuss how finance, at its core, is about resource allocation from investors to businesses and back to investors. If our financial markets work well, the best ideas get financed and people can accomplish their dreams.

Eric Fricke, PhD worked for two Fortune 500 companies, first as an engineer and then as an analyst and business director. Dr. Fricke did finance valuations of acquisition targets and strategy analyses with lots of spreadsheets and presentations in between.

Dr. Fricke has a BS in Mechanical Engineering, MBA in Marketing and Finance, and PhD in Finance. His research has been quite varied with his interests from corporate investments, governance, and earnings announcements to governance of investment funds.

Ying Guo

PhD

Continuously discovering, creating, and acquiring new knowledge is essential for delivering high-quality teaching in accounting. This is especially crucial in today’s “information age,” as accounting undergoes rapid and significant changes in its methods and techniques.

Ying Guo, PhD is an associate professor of accounting teaching at Cal State East Bay. He joined CSUEB in 2014 after he received his PhD in International Management, specializing in accounting from University of Hawaii at Manoa in the same year. He teaches a variety of courses, including financial accounting, auditing, and individual taxation, at both graduate and undergraduate levels. His research interests focus on accounting quality, sustainability accounting, corporate board diversity, and climate change disclosure.

Dr. Guo is a licensed CPA in California. Dr. Guo also holds a PhD in Physical Chemistry and has published journals in interdisciplinary fields, including accounting, astrochemistry, chemical physics, civil engineering, and scientific instruments designs.

Vish Hegde

PhD

Dr. Vish Hegde is the Professor of Management in the College of Business and Economics at Cal State East Bay.

He has over 35 years of experience in a variety of roles and domains that span both academia and industry. He started his career as a mechanical engineer and has worked in aeronautics and renewable energy areas. He obtained a PhD in Operations Management from the University of Pittsburgh in 1997. He then worked for IT companies including PeopleSoft as a senior consultant and product manager.

He joined Cal State East Bay in 2002 to pursue an academic career and bring a blend of academic expertise and industry experience into teaching, research, and consulting. He has been conducting empirical research and has published 20 refereed research articles. He has taught a broad range of subjects (including Data Mining, Project Management) for business degree programs including MBA, Executive MBA programs at Singapore and Moscow, Transnational Executive MBA, MS in Business Analytics and online/on-ground Undergraduate Business Programs.

He has 13 years of experience in various administration roles at Cal State East Bay. This includes the Chair of Management from 2016-2020 where he managed all strategic and operational aspects of the biggest department on campus; Interim Associate Dean of College of Business and Economics from 221-2024. He was the Coordinator of Online Programs in the College of Business from 2014-2020, where he has been responsible for online quality standards and faculty development initiatives.

Christopher Lim

PhD

Passionate and Inspiring Educator and Entrepreneur ‘Love and Learn’

Christopher Lim, PhD was previously a global supply chain executive for two decades and held key positions as global director responsible for managing key clients such as Apple Inc. and other named corporations. Dr. Lim is also an entrepreneur who co-founded EASE Education LLC. in 2018, an educational enrichment school for K-12 levels. Dr. Lim is an award-winning educator and has been recognized as "Master Teacher" for several years and sole recipient of the "Distinguished Lecturer Teaching Award in 2021" with San Jose State University. He is an avid runner, who sings and plays the guitar, and a passionate family man.

Dr. Lim holds a PhD in Management from Walden University and a MSc. Degree in Marketing from University of Strathclyde.

Jeffrey Newcomb

Jeff Newcomb, MBA, is a lecturer with the College of Business and Economics (CBE), teaching coursework in marketing, strategy, analytics, and related subjects. Newcomb is President of the California Faculty Association (CFA), East Bay Chapter, and activist for university shared governance through the CSUEB Academic Senate. He’s principal of Red Widget Strategies, working with clients in market planning and business development. Previously, he held leadership positions with WGBH Boston Public Television and the Tom Peters Group, management consultants, Palo Alto. He’s been honored with CBE’s Abendroth Outstanding Lecturer Award and voted Distinguished Professor, Concord Campus, and Teacher of the Year, Contra Costa Office of Education.

Newcomb holds an AB, Colgate University, and MBA, Binghamton University, State University of New York.

Asha Rao

Ph.D.

The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates.The great teacher inspires.

Dr. Asha Rao is a Professor of Management at CBE and leads the One-Year Accelerated MBA program at CSUEB. Her research and consulting interests are in leadership, negotiations, and diversity and inclusion in a global environment. Her research in these areas has been published in leading journals and presented at academic and practitioner conferences. Dr. Rao has developed and taught courses based on her areas of expertise at CSUEB, Rutgers, and McGill Universities and received multiple Outstanding Faculty Awards in her career. She is currently the George and Miriam Phillips Outstanding Professor 2024/25. She is a Senior Fulbright Fellow.

Rao also leads academic innovation. She is the founder and Director of the Women in Leadership Program. She is currently focused on enhancing the MBA curriculum’s strengths in analytics, AI, and innovation. She typically teaches Negotiation, Leadership, Creativity, Team Building, and Managing the Global Workplace in the MBA program.

Filippo Rebessi

PhD

Economics is about numbers, but there's more to it. It’s about uncovering stories and solutions hidden within data.

Dr. Filippo Rebessi is an Associate Professor of Economics and currently serves as Chair of the Economics Department at California State University, East Bay. He earned his PhD in Economics from the University of Minnesota in 2016. His research applies quantitative macroeconomic models to analyze a broad range of topics, including immigration policy, agricultural policy, firm dynamics, and even sports economics. His diverse research interests reflect a commitment to using quantitative and data-driven analysis to address complex issues. He is particularly excited to explore the potential of generative AI to enhance coding and modeling of complex economic systems, and to help create and visualize insights derived from economic models and data.

Shahar Sansani

PhD

My teaching approach is rooted in the use of practical examples, providing students with a clear and accessible way to master complex concepts

Shahar Sansani, PhD is a lecturer in the Department of Economics at Cal State East Bay. He also teaches courses at the University of the Pacific and the University of California, Davis. His research interests lie in the Economics of Education and Economics of Discrimination, spanning an array of topics including whether granting students extra time to study for exams will increase their score and whether the religiously observant face discrimination in the housing market. Dr. Shahar earned his PhD in Economics from the University of California, Davis in 2009.

  • An undergraduate degree with a 2.5 Grade Point Average (or equivalent)
  • TOEFL for international students
  • Statement of Interest and Resume
  • 1:1 interview with Program Director

Additional Requirements for International Students

For admission to Cal State East Bay as an international student, you are required to meet the minimum requirements described above and demonstrate proof of English proficiency in one of the following ways:

  • A TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) Internet-based score of 80.
  • An overall test score from IELTS (International English Language Testing System) exam of 6.5 or above for graduate students.

Common Questions

How much time does it take to complete the MBA program?
The program is three semesters, one year, and runs from Fall through Summer semester the following year. You will “officially” graduate in August.
How many courses can I take per semester?
All class-meeting dates and a detailed course calendar are distributed at the beginning of the program in order to accommodate professionals with busy work schedules.
How many hours outside of class will I need to put in?
It may vary by subjects and students. In general 3 to 5 study hours to every class contact hours are expected per week. Each 3 hour course requires 9 to 15 hours of study hours to do well.
Are there any prerequisites required for students who did not earn a bachelors in business?
No. MBA programs are open to students with any bachelor’s degree. We simply encourage a 2.5+ undergraduate GPA.
Can I transfer in credits for courses I have taken at other schools?
No. In order to earn the MBA degree, members of the One-Year Accelerated MBA program are required to complete and pass all courses offered in the MBA curriculum, regardless of past coursework.
What type of AI tools or resources are available to students?

What type of leadership or innovation opportunities are available to students?
MBA students have access to our Smith Center for Private Enterprise Studies and our Women in Leadership Fellowship.
